REVISTING GUGGENHEIM
The white-cube gallery setting requires the audience to have a specific set of knowledge and reference to process/understand/connect/feel the displayed art.
This approach provides the visitor with a one-sided narrative, that leaves little room for personal experiences which results in a lack of connection between the audience and the content.
This project is an exploration of exhibition strategies the deconstructs the white-cube gallery approach, to present the art in a more inclusive, diverse, equal, and accessible way.
The pieces chosen for this project are Kandinsky pieces from the Guggenheim's permanent collection. Two strategies were developed for the chosen pieces that work to break from the white cube approach.
STRATEGY NARRATIVE
Amplifying emotional experiences present in the displayed content, through its extrapolation to the display space for visitor experience, to form a personal, emotional and intimate connection between the audience and the displayed art.
Through different spatial elements, from light to color, from distance to scale, the exhibition space provokes a variety of emotions, engaging the audience in a personal emotional connection with the artworks.
STRATEGY CONCEPT
Kandinsky states that the purpose of real art is to connect the artist and viewer personally, to move the inner spirit and cause vibrations within the soul.
The strategies for the display is to extend the same spirituality in Kandinsky's art into the display space, to spark a personal, emotional connection between the audience and the art pieces.
STRATEGY ONE
Extrapolating ethereal components into spiritual connection through architectural elements
STRATEGY TWO
Extrapolating ethereal components into spiritual connection through applying Kandinsky's design principles to the exhibition space
